Hi, my name is Morgan Watson. Thank you for stopping by. My mother and I created this space so that I could share my healthcare journey with you. Together, the two of us, will update you guys as my story unfolds with the hope that God’s light will shine through every post.
With that said, let me share a bit about my story for those of you that may not be aware. In December of 2009, I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblasic Leukemia (ALL). For the following 3.5 years, I went through extensive treatment that resulted in many hospital admissions and clinic visits. Honestly, I spent more time in those two places, than I did at home. Although remission was achieved, I encountered many side effects from the various chemotherapy’s along the way. Neurotoxicity and pulmonary hypertension were the toughest of them all. They both wrestled to take my life, though obviously unsuccessful. Today, some 8 years later, I am still dealing with the repercussion of the neurotoxicity that left my speech, hand coordination, and mobility impaired. On a happy note, my heart & lungs fully recovered from the pulmonary hypertension; although, treatment for it added an additional year to my leukemia treatment.
For the following 5 years, my family and I adapted to our new “normal”. That is, until June 27, 2018. It was on that hot summer day in June that we learned that the leukemia had returned, and that treatment for it would start, yet again. Considering all of the previous side effects that had occurred, we were fearful. Since that time, I have had biweekly clinic visits, several hospital admissions, IV chemotherapy, multiple blood transfusions & bone marrow biopsy’s, daily medications to include oral chemotherapy, radiation for a chloroma above my left eye, and immunotherapy (Car-T). Being that I could not undergo traditional treatment due to the previous side effects, Car-T seemed to be the best option for long term remission; although, it was unsuccessful. This brings us to today, January 17, 2019.
Now that you know a little about me, I hope that you will stick around to be a part of my journey. Being surrounded by those that love and support me have kept me pushing through since the start.
